Pf. Chang is a full Professor of Pediatrics at Sungkyunkwan University School of Medicine. As a neonatologist, she serves as Director of the NICU of Samsung Medical Center.
She is also a current Director of Health Sciences and Technology at Samsung Advanced Institute for Health Sciences & Technology (SAIHST) at Sungkyunkwan University.
She is also the Director of the Cell and Gene Therapy Institute (CGTI) at Samsung Medical Center.
She is leading the Korean Neonatal Network (KNN, in which 70 Korean NICUs participate) as a Director and is Vice Chairman of the Korean Society of Neonatology.
Her editorial activity includes former Editor-in-Chief of Neonatal Medicine (Official journal of the Korean Society of Neonatology), Section Editor of the Journal of Korean Medical Science (Official journal of the National Academy of Medicine of Korea), and the current Editorial board of Neonatology (Switzerland), Pediatrics and Neonatology (Taiwan), and Pediatric Medicine (China) with the reviewer activity for Pediatric Research, Journal of Pediatrics, Pediatrics, Stem Cell Transplantation Medicine, and Nature Reviews Disease Primers.
Her research interest focuses on improving the survival of extremely preterm infants on the verge of viability and the translational bench-to-bedside stem cell and stem cell-derived extracellular vesicle research to treat neonatal intractable diseases such as bronchopulmonary dysplasia, severe intraventricular hemorrhage, and hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy.
She has published over 340 papers, including 205 in international peer-reviewed journals, and has invented over 40 patents.
She received many awards, including the Commendation of the Prime Minister from the Korean Ministry of the Interior and Safety and the Commendation of the Minister of Korean Health and Welfare in 2020, in honor of her contributions to the field of health research, including neonatology and stem cells & regenerative medicine.
